Smiling at another human
A poem
Soldiers also eat ice cream.
For the duration of a single lick
they shrug off the violence
and remember they are children.Uniforms come in all colours.
Righteous morality. Unhinged hatred.
Caring protection. Fear of death.
Love of living. And just like that. You too
- are a warrior and a child. Wondering
who will bring tenderness
to the red vortex of your heart.
I could say much about the moment that sprung this feeling into existence.
People watching through a bus window.
And mention all the experiences that accumulated into it, to build sentences.
I could say much about our hidden hearts and all the things we dare not face inside ourselves. But in the end, what I cherish about poetry - is, that this is all that needs to be said.
Does this resonate? Or awaken something?
As always, I invite you to make this a conversation <3
